Overman Building Supply is commited to providing our customers with "Green" building materials. We strive to make your home durable, energy efficient, affordable and with products made from sustainable sources.

What is a green building product or material?

Green building materials are composed of renewable, rather than nonrenewable resources. Green materials are environmentally responsible because impacts are considered over the life of the product.

Overall material/product selection criteria for our products are :

Resource efficiency
Energy efficiency
Affordability

Resource Efficiency can be accomplished by utilizing materials that meet the following criteria:
Recycled Content: Products with identifiable recycled content, including postindustrial content with a preference for postconsumer content.

Natural, plentiful or renewable: Materials harvested from sustainably managed sources and preferably have an independent certification (e.g., certified wood) and are certified by an independent third party.

Resource efficient manufacturing process: Products manufactured with resource-efficient processes including reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste (recycled, recyclable and or source reduced product packaging), and reducing greenhouse gases.

Locally available: Building materials, components, and systems found locally or regionally saving energy and resources in transportation to the project site.

Salvaged, refurbished, or remanufactured: Includes saving a material from disposal and renovating, repairing, restoring, or generally improving the appearance, performance, quality, functionality, or value of a product.

Reusable or recyclable: Select materials that can be easily dismantled and reused or recycled at the end of their useful life.

Recycled or recyclable product packaging: Products enclosed in recycled content or recyclable packaging.

Durable: Materials that are longer lasting or are comparable to conventional products with long life expectancies.

Energy Efficiency can be maximized by utilizing materials and systems that meet the following criteria: Materials, components, and systems that help reduce energy consumption in buildings and facilities.

Affordability can be considered when building product life-cycle costs are comparable to conventional materials or as a whole, are within a project-defined percentage of the overall budget.

Our Interior Door Shop

In August of 2005, we opened our new Interior Door Shop, which allowed us greater flexibility and more competetive pricing with our interior doors. We now have the capability to provide our customers with a better built door unit, less handling before delivery,and much more selection.

At present we can provide 12 different door styles and 5 or more different hinge finish colors. We keep in stock 3 door styles--6 Panel Textured-- Panel Archtop Textured--4 Panel Archtop Textured. We can have the most of the other styles available in just a few days, as we only need to order the door"slabs" to hang in our Door Shop.

We can also install the customers choice of door casings either from our stocking patterns or by special order most any casing desired. We now offer T-Astragals with or without Headbolt and Ball Catches installed on Bi-Hinge (Double) Doors. Need a Transom over your door, or over your Cased Opening, we can handle that as well. Need a custom size cut-down door for your attic access opening, no problem. Replacing an old door with a new one and need the hinge routs to match the old frame, Just bring us the hinge placement measurements and we can take care of it.

We can "special order" numerous other styles at the customer's request and hang them in our shop as well. Please allow extra lead time for these doors to be ordered.

Bill Markham---Bill is a 28 year veteran in the building supply industry. He started his career at Lowe's Companies in Burlington, N.C. in 1978, fresh out of high school and worked his way from the loading dock to the sales team in 1986. Bill joined the Overman team in October of 1996 and he is celebrating his 12th year with us in 2008. Bill is very conscientous and works hard to get the job done.

Mark is a 26 year veteran in the building supply business. Mark started his career with Lowe's Companies in Burlington, N.C. in 1980. During his tenure of over 15 years with Lowe's, he started working in the warehouse and loading dock, then into sales, and went on to hold every sales management position in the Contractor and Retail sides of a Lowe's store, and was Store Manager of two Lowe's stores. Mark joined the Overman Team in May of 1996 and is celebrated his 12th year with us in 2008. Mark is very active with the local Burlington-Alamance Homebuilders Association having served several terms on the Board of Directors, as 2nd Vice- President and was chosen as Associate of the Year for 2005.
